Community Outreach Program

Early experiences shape the architecture of the developing brain, they also lay the foundations of sound mental health. Disruptions to this developmental process can impair capacities for learning and hamper children’s ability to effectively relate to society. Reducing the stressors affecting children requires intervention to alleviate the stresses on their families.

A technical note was published by The Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action which advocates for authorities to strengthen protection measures for children during the COVID-19 pandemic. ( https://alliancecpha.org/en/COVD19)

In response, the Catapult Foundation has initiated a community outreach effort in two supported schools, to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 and to ensure that enrolled learners who receive a meal per day at school will continue to receive meals to alleviate the burden on parents and reduce stress in children.

We estimate that today there are 15 000 households in Hawston adversely affected by the national lockdown.  These families have to date not been reached with the relief of social distress announced by President Ramaphosa.  The Catapult distribution campaign is rolled out in collaboration with the Department of Education and local Municipality.  The need is urgent and immediate intervention is of utmost importance to support these families and learners during this difficult time.

Our organisation is dedicated to the process of feeding these communities, however, our work would not be possible without the generous support of donors. Our communities are experiencing extreme social distress and we are committed to seeing this project succeed.

We extend an invitation for you to partner with our organisation to promote food and household security in our communities.
